Dear Congressperson,
I am writing as a constituent to voice my support for the investments in the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) in the Build Back Better Act.
These funds will allow more high-poverty schools and districts to offer breakfast and lunch to all students at no charge, reducing child hunger and making school meals more efficient.
We all know that proper nutrition is fundamental to every aspect of our health and wellbeing. Data shows that students who participate in school meals have improved attendance and academic achievement as well as decreased tardiness. In addition, research shows that school-aged children experiencing hunger are nearly twice as likely to experience chronic illness and have behavior problems.
Currently only half of the schools in Minnesota that are eligible for CEP are participating. Fortunately, this investment would provide the funds necessary to make the program feasible for more schools in Minnesota.
The Build Back Better Act offers a unique opportunity to improve child nutrition and access to school meals, moving us closer to ensuring school meals for all students.
Thank you for your leadership,
